U.S. Navy awards BAE Systems up to $180 million for USS Boxer modernization and maintenance work at Naval Base San Diego

The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems a $149.8 million firm-fixed-price contract for work on USS Boxer (LHD 4). Exercising all available options would increase the total value to $180 million.

The award covers modernization, maintenance and repairs under a Selected Restricted Availability. BAE Systems will perform the work at Naval Base San Diego.

Eric Icke, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Maritime Solutions San Diego, said: “Critical maintenance of the USS Boxer will support the U.S. Navy’s vital mission to continue defending our nation. I look forward to our highly skilled team delivering unmatched capacity, precision, and performance for our customer.”

The contract falls within BAE Systems’ wider ship services business, which supports the Navy, other government agencies and commercial customers. Its work includes vessel repair, maintenance, modernization, conversion and overhaul.

BAE Systems operates full-service shipyards in California, Florida and Virginia. The facilities provide drydocks, shiplifts, railways, land-level work areas, pier space and related ship support services.
