UVision: Hero 120 demonstrates efficiency in Arctic winter conditions

By Arie Egozi

The Hero 120 loitering weapon system, produced by the Israeli company Uvision, has successfully demonstrated its capability to meet the rigorous combat requirements of the Arctic winter.

This accomplishment was achieved through a series of flight missions conducted in the Arctic region as part of a field evaluation conducted under extremely harsh winter environmental conditions. Representatives from various leading defense forces with arctic warfare capabilities attended this evaluation, which marked the final phase of an extensive process. This process included prior test flights in the region, along with comprehensive laboratory environmental tests that simulated the extreme temperatures, winds, and humidity characteristic of the arctic winter.

The Hero-120 LM is equipped to carry a versatile warhead with both anti-tank and anti-personnel capabilities. Throughout the evaluation, this advanced loitering munition system successfully underwent testing in both day and night missions, operating in exceptionally challenging conditions. These conditions encompassed extreme low temperatures, heavy snow, strong winds, high humidity, icy flight conditions, low cloud cover, and limited visibility. The evaluation validated the Hero-120’s effectiveness in combat situations within the Arctic environment. Furthermore, it was found to be compliant with the unique storage and transportation requirements of the region.

The system’s effectiveness in harsh weather operations not only caters to the specific needs of military forces operating in the Arctic but also extends to the broader northern and eastern regions of Europe.

“Completing the process of adapting our systems to the harsh climate of the Arctic winter is a significant milestone towards the widespread adoption of HERO Loitering Munitions by European and NATO defense forces,” asserts Major General (ret.) Avi Mizrachi, CEO of UVision. He further added, “The conflict in Ukraine has led the world’s leading armies to recognize the necessity of preparedness for any scenario, subsequently amplifying their interest in combat-proven, reliable, and robust loitering munitions like the HERO family.”

The Hero 120 Loitering Munition System, a mid-range anti-tank system, is designed to address the demands of the modern battlefield. It employs high-precision strikes against anti-armor, anti-material, and anti-personnel targets, including tanks, vehicles, and soft targets in urban areas. Featuring minimal collateral damage and a range of multi-purpose warheads, the Hero 120 offers operational users an effective engagement solution.
