Viasat secures USD 568 million GSA contract to enhance C5ISR capabilities for U.S. armed forces

By Defence Industry Europe

Viasat, Inc., a global leader in satellite communications, has been awarded a five-year, sole-source Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). The agreement, which has a potential value of up to $568 million, aims to support the modernisation of the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) capabilities.

This contract extends a previous IDIQ award from 2019 and focuses on transitioning best practices and technologies from Special Operations Forces (SOF) to General Purpose Forces (GPF). Viasat will deliver an array of advanced technologies and services that enhance communications, security, intelligence, and operational efficiency for U.S. warfighters.

Key elements of Viasat’s contributions include tactical networking solutions, satellite communication (SATCOM) systems, ground system advancements, and cybersecurity innovations. The company’s recent acquisition of Inmarsat in 2023 has significantly broadened its portfolio, enabling it to offer more comprehensive and adaptable communication solutions tailored to evolving DoD requirements.

The contract framework facilitates swift acquisition and implementation of new technologies, addressing critical priorities such as mobility, resilient networking, and cybersecurity. This ensures military personnel across all services can access cutting-edge tools to improve situational awareness and operational effectiveness.

Susan Miller, President of Viasat Government, emphasised the company’s commitment to supporting the U.S. military, stating: “Viasat is proud to be a trusted partner for the entire Joint Force, providing the DoD with a wide range of capabilities and services including advanced tactical networking, ground system and mobile satellite communications (SATCOM) solutions, information assurance and cybersecurity products, and satellite services. We look forward to continuing our close partnership with the DoD to solve complex problems and support military forces across domains with flexible, resilient and secure capabilities that enable enhanced operations and improved situational awareness across the battlespace.”
