Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defence and anti-ballistic capabilities. The Office of the President of Ukraine said the leaders also discussed measures to improve Ukraine’s ability to repel ongoing Russian attacks.

Zelenskyy thanked France for its support and for what he described as its principled condemnation of Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and communities. “These attacks make very clear what Russia is and why we all need to strengthen our collective defense against all threats,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.

The Ukrainian president welcomed France’s readiness to work on anti-ballistic capabilities and reinforce Ukraine’s air defence. The two leaders also discussed steps aimed at increasing Ukraine’s current ability to counter Russian attacks.

Zelenskyy and Macron also addressed Ukraine’s European integration track and the opening of all negotiation clusters in the near future. Zelenskyy said France supports Ukraine and understands the importance of this step for Ukrainians.

Macron informed Zelenskyy about his visit to countries in Africa. The two presidents discussed the importance of joint coordination in that area.

The leaders agreed to remain in contact in the near future. The conversation took place as Ukraine continues to seek stronger air defence capabilities and wider international support against Russian strikes.
