Finnish defence company Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces have renewed their strategic partnership agreement, reinforcing their long-standing cooperation. The agreement ensures that military aviation equipment, naval defence systems, and command systems remain fully operational throughout their lifecycle, regardless of the security situation.

Strategic partnership is the deepest form of cooperation between the Finnish Defence Forces and a service provider, aimed at securing critical services and capabilities over the long term. It focuses on joint development goals, readiness in peacetime, and continuity of operations under exceptional circumstances.

The renewed agreement was signed by Major General Tero Ylitalo, Chief of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, and Esa Rautalinko, President and CEO of Patria. “To ensure continuity of operations in a changing environment is an important part of strategic partnership. The partnership agreement that has now been signed supports this objective,” says Ylitalo.

Patria confirmed its commitment to supporting the Finnish Defence Forces both during peace and in crisis. “Patria is committed to maintaining the operational readiness of the military equipment of the Finnish Defence Forces in the long term, both in times of peace and crisis. The agreement includes also, as a new component, a technology partnership, which enables the development of new capabilities in close cooperation with the Defence Forces,” said Rautalinko.

The relationship between Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces dates back over a century, with the concept of strategic partnership formally introduced in the 2000s. These services support the Defence Forces in fulfilling their core missions and maintaining national defence readiness.

As part of the partnership, both sides engage in extensive information exchange, preparedness activities, and collaborative development of services, technologies, and operating models. The agreement also includes a wartime economy component to ensure access to personnel, facilities and production capacity during times of crisis.
