CoAspire wins $70 million U.S. Navy CHAOS deal to develop affordable ground-launched cruise missile for coalition maritime strike

The U.S. Navy has selected CoAspire’s Rapidly Adaptable Affordable Cruise Missile-Extended Range Ground-Launched variant for the Coalition Heterogenous Affordable Offensive Strike program. The $70 million Prototype Other Transactional Agreement covers the development of an affordable mid-range cruise missile system able to strike land targets and moving maritime targets.

The agreement was made with CMG Networks on behalf of the Naval Aviation Systems Consortium. CoAspire will design, build, test and deliver the system to the Program Acquisition Executive for Munitions and its program office, PMX-201.

The program is aimed at Foreign Military Sale customers among U.S. allies and coalition partners. CoAspire said those customers need a maritime strike weapon that is both affordable and highly effective, while also being suitable for scaled production.

CoAspire’s proposed system combines the RAACM-ER missile with a booster and launcher to create the RAACM-ER Ground-Launched configuration. The company said the CHAOS-adapted variant is comparable to the RAACM ER GHOST version used in the OUSW R&E and U.S. Army PAE Fires-funded Low-Cost Containerized Munition program.

The agreement gives CoAspire a role in a Navy program focused on expanding accessible offensive strike options for allied and coalition users. It also links the company’s RAACM-ER Ground-Launched design to a broader push for cruise missile systems that can be produced at scale.

CoAspire said its RAACM family includes affordable cruise missile variants for air, surface and ground launch. The RAACM-ER uses additive manufacturing to support maximum payload capacity.

The company said additive manufacturing allows rapid design changes while reducing tooling and touch labor. CoAspire said that approach can cut costs and improve the program without stopping a production line for retooling.

The same manufacturing approach also allows new variants to be developed in months rather than years, according to the company. For the CHAOS program, CoAspire is positioning RAACM-ER Ground-Launched as an affordable cruise missile option for land attack and maritime strike missions.
