The mobile radars are capable of monitoring their surroundings for the presence of drones, even while moving at high speeds. This mobility makes it more difficult for adversaries to locate and neutralize the radars, allowing for continuous detection and targeting of enemy drones.
The Dutch Ministry of Defence has previously purchased radar systems from Robin Radar Systems, which were static and are currently in use at various locations. Feedback from users highlighted the need for the ability to detect drones while on the move. In response, further development of the radar system has led to this new capability.
The 51 radar systems are expected to be donated to Ukraine in the final quarter of 2024, with delivery occurring in phases. These radars will play a crucial role in countering drone attacks from Russia, providing essential defence capabilities to Ukraine.
