The C-390 Millennium is a medium-sized, multi-mission military transport aircraft designed for versatility and efficiency. According to Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, the aircraft sets new standards in its category by combining advanced technology, reliability, and low operational costs.
With a maximum payload capacity of 26 tonnes and a top speed of 470 knots, the C-390 offers robust performance in various operational environments. Its powerful engines, spacious cargo hold with a rear ramp, and reinforced landing gear enable it to operate on unpaved runways and in challenging conditions.
The aircraft is designed to perform a wide range of missions, including cargo and personnel transport, peacekeeping operations, special forces deployment, humanitarian aid, medical evacuation, search and rescue, and disaster relief. Additionally, the C-390 is capable of air-to-air refuelling, with the KC-390 variant able to function both as a tanker and a receiver using wing-mounted refuelling pods.
Since its entry into service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, the C-390 has demonstrated high levels of reliability and efficiency. The aircraft has accumulated over 16,300 flight hours, achieving a mission capability rate of 93% and mission completion rates exceeding 99%.
Austria joins a growing list of nations investing in the C-390 Millennium, following Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and South Korea. In 2024, Sweden, Slovakia, and an undisclosed customer also opted for the aircraft, reinforcing its status as a leading choice in the global defence sector.
