The Multinational MRTT Fleet now includes nine nations: the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Czechia, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. The programme operates Airbus A330 Multirole Tanker Transport aircraft under a pooling arrangement.
The Multinational MRTT Fleet has operated the Airbus A330 MRTT since 2020. Airbus described the aircraft as the most capable and combat-proven strategic tanker available.
The programme gives participating nations the exclusive right to operate NATO-owned Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft. Airbus said the arrangement delivers commonality, cost efficiency and interoperability on both sides of the Atlantic.
The fleet currently has nine A330 MRTT aircraft in operation from a total order of 12 aircraft. Airbus said the programme remains a leading example of European operational defence collaboration.
The MMF unit has already deployed to NATO’s Eastern Flank and supported civilian and refugee evacuations in Afghanistan. It has also taken part in multinational exercises in the Indo-Pacific region.
Airbus said the announcement shows strong cooperation between NATO, participating nations and industry. The company said the programme demonstrates how countries can pool and share resources to secure continuous access to modern capabilities and respond to evolving security challenges through innovation and cooperation.
