Greece has signed a contract to acquire three Embraer KC-390 Millennium aircraft through a government-to-government agreement with Portugal, with options for three additional aircraft. The first delivery is scheduled for 2027, adding airlift and air-to-air refuelling capacity to the Hellenic Air Force.

The agreement makes Greece the seventh European country to select the KC-390, joining Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden. Embraer said the purchase would strengthen interoperability with NATO and allied forces while opening opportunities for shared training, support and logistics in Europe.

“We are honored by Greece’s decision to acquire the KC-390 Millennium,” said Bosco Da Costa Junior, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “This very important milestone further solidifies the aircraft’s position as a preferred solution for military airlift among NATO allies.”

The KC-390 can carry a payload of 26 tonnes and fly at 470 knots, according to Embraer. It is designed for missions including cargo and troop transport, airdrops, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and humanitarian assistance.

The aircraft can operate from temporary or unpaved runways and can be fitted with quick-installation air-to-air refuelling equipment. In that configuration, it can serve as both a tanker and a receiver.

Embraer said the platform’s communications, mission systems and digital architecture were designed to support joint and coalition operations. Outside Europe, the aircraft has also been acquired by Brazil, South Korea, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates and Colombia.
