The planned system is intended to detect and intercept ballistic missiles. Fire Point is a Ukrainian defence technology company developing and producing UAV and missile systems for modern precision warfare.
Hensoldt will be responsible for the production, testing and delivery of radars for the ballistic missile defence system. The company will also support their integration into the wider system.
The TRML-4D high-performance radar will play a key role in FREYJA. Hensoldt said the radar has proved itself in combat in recent years and is suited to the intended purpose because of its software-based adaptability.
The radar is based on Active Electronically Scanned Array technology. Hensoldt said it can reliably detect and track around 1,500 air targets of all types.
Fire Point will act as prime contractor and is expected to hold overall design authority for the system. The company will produce, test and deliver its FP-7 missiles, including the launch and control systems.
Fire Point will also integrate the main components into the ballistic missile defence system. The companies said the cooperation is intended to combine Ukrainian operational experience with European sensor technology and industrial capacity.
“The collaboration with Fire Point on FREYJA is an important step towards a scalable European contribution to ballistic missile defence,” said Hensoldt CEO Oliver Dörre. “Ukraine has shown how quickly innovation can emerge under real operational pressure.”
“Our task is to combine this speed with proven sensor technology, industrial scalability and system integration. Together with local manufacturers and European partners, we want to help close one of the most urgent capability gaps in air and missile defence,” Dörre said.
