In December 2018, Hungary signed a substantial contract with German defence industry, valued at EUR 1.5 billion. This contract encompasses the delivery of 44 Leopard 2A7 tanks, 5 Leguan assault bridges, five Wisent 2 vehicles, and 24 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers. Open sources estimate the cost of the 44 Leopard 2A7 tanks alone at approximately EUR 500 million.

The Hungarian Ministry of Defence expects the delivery of all ordered Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks to be completed by 2025.
