IAI announced the payload on October 9, expanding its POP family of electro-optical systems. The company said the design meets demanding size, weight and power requirements, including those of platforms where payload size and weight are critical.
“The POP 1000 represents the continued evolution of IAI’s electro-optical capabilities, bringing advanced sensing and mission capabilities into a compact system that provides customers with greater operational flexibility,” said Guy Bar Lev, president and CEO of IAI. “Building on the experience of more than thousands of POP systems deployed worldwide, we continue to adapt proven technologies to meet changing operational needs.”

POP 1000 combines high-definition daytime cameras with medium-wave infrared thermal and short-wave infrared cameras. An eye-safe laser rangefinder and laser designator complete the sensor package, supporting detection, identification, tracking and target designation by day, at night and in challenging visibility conditions.

The payload includes automatic video tracking, advanced image processing and four-axis stabilization to maintain a stable line of sight in dynamic operating environments. It can also incorporate AI-based capabilities to support mission execution.
An integrated inertial navigation system enables accurate geo-referencing. Picture-in-picture functionality provides an additional tool for situational awareness.
IAI said the new payload builds on decades of operational experience and the established architecture of its POP family, which is used by dozens of customers worldwide. The company will present POP 1000 for the first time at the AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Hall C, booth 3525.
