Israel acquires 25 Boeing F-15 fighter jets in USD 5.2 billion deal

By Defence Industry Europe

The Israel Ministry of Defence (IMOD) has secured a deal to acquire 25 advanced F-15 fighter jets from Boeing. The USD 5.2 billion contract, signed on Wednesday, also includes an option for an additional 25 jets as part of a larger U.S. aid package approved earlier this year.

This agreement follows extensive negotiations between the IMOD’s U.S. Mission and Boeing, with input from the Israeli Air Force. IMOD’s Director General, Major General (Res.) Eyal Zamir, formalised the deal during a visit to the United States last month, further reinforcing defence ties between Israel and the U.S.

The new F-15IA jets come equipped with cutting-edge weapon systems, enhanced range capabilities, and improved payload capacities, offering advanced operational flexibility. This upgrade will incorporate state-of-the-art Israeli technologies, enabling the Israeli Air Force to address evolving security challenges and maintain its strategic superiority in the region.

Deliveries of the F-15 jets are set to commence in 2031, with an expected annual supply of 4-6 aircraft. The acquisition is a pivotal step in strengthening Israel’s defence posture, underscoring the collaborative commitment between Israel and the United States to regional stability and security.

Major General Zamir emphasised the IMOD’s comprehensive strategy to upgrade Israel’s operational capacity, highlighting nearly $40 billion (approx. NIS 150 billion) in defence procurement deals since the start of recent conflicts. In addition to addressing immediate needs, Israel is investing in long-term military capabilities, including a third squadron of F-35 jets purchased earlier this year.

This acquisition marks a historic enhancement in Israeli air power, with Major General Zamir noting the strategic significance of these aircraft in recent military operations. The procurement aligns with Israel’s broader goals to advance capabilities across all branches of the Israel Defense Forces, from air and naval forces to intelligence and ground operations.

Boeing Israel’s President, Major General (Ret.) Ido Nehushtan, expressed pride in Boeing’s enduring partnership with Israel, noting the company’s commitment to delivering the F-15IA jets through established military channels.
