Israel delivers first Tamir interceptors to U.S. Marine Corps for MRIC air defense system deployment milestone

Raytheon and Rafael have teamed for over a decade on Iron Dome

The Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems have delivered the first batch of Tamir interceptors to the U.S. Marine Corps. The delivery was carried out as scheduled under the Medium Range Intercept Capability (MRIC) program.

IMDO operates within the Directorate of Defense Research and Development under the Israel Ministry of Defense. The Tamir interceptor is a core component of the combat-proven Iron Dome air defense system.

The initial delivery is intended to support the force build-up of the first operational MRIC platoon. It marks a milestone in establishing a new mobile air defense capability for Marine Corps forces operating in expeditionary and maneuver warfare environments.

The MRIC system integrates the Iron Dome system and its Tamir interceptor into a mobile air and missile defense architecture. It is designed to meet the operational requirements of forward-deployed U.S. Marine Corps units.

The system is expected to provide defense against a range of aerial threats, including cruise missiles and unmanned aerial systems. It forms part of a layered and flexible air defense concept aimed at enhancing battlefield protection.

This delivery represents the first supply under a multi-year program following a series of successful evaluations and operational assessments. Further deliveries are expected as part of the ongoing program.

IMDO and Rafael continue to work with U.S. partners to support deployment and operational readiness of the MRIC system. The cooperation draws on Israel’s experience in air and missile defense systems.
