Israel looking to acquire JASSM air-launched cruise missiles, media reports

By Defence Industry Europe

According to the Israeli business news website Globes, Israel is seeking to acquire Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM), a type of air-launched cruise missile manufactured by American defence contractor Lockheed Martin. Official data indicates that the JASSM has an operational range of up to 370 km.

Globes reports that Israel’s Ministry of Defence is in “advanced talks with the U.S. administration to procure Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM)”. The online magazine notes that the information has been confirmed by two sources within the Israeli defence establishment. The report adds that these missiles could potentially be used by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) for strikes against targets in Iran.

However, there has been no official confirmation of these reports from either Israeli or U.S. authorities.

The JASSM is a precision-guided cruise missile equipped with a 450 kg armour-piercing warhead. The system is already integrated with several platforms, including the F-35 fifth-generation fighter jet, which is currently in service with the Israeli Air Force.
