According to the Hungarian Ministry of Defence, the recent delivery includes a Leopard 2A7 Driver Training Tank, which will be used for training crews in Hungary. With these two newly delivered tanks, the Hungarian land forces now possess a total of 13 Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks.
Under the 2018 contract, KNDS Germany is set to supply the Hungarian Defence Forces with a total of 44 Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks. The Leopard 2A7HU features a hull length of 7.7 meters, extending to 10.97 meters with the gun forward. Without add-on armor, the tank measures 3.76 meters in width and 3.03 meters in height. Its firepower is provided by an L55A1 120 mm Rheinmetall tank gun, ensuring firing accuracy even at a distance of 5000 meters.
Additionally, the tank is equipped with a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, a remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS) with a 12.7 mm machine gun, and two banks of eight 76mm smoke grenade launchers, which can also fire high-explosive (HE) grenades.
Hungary has also ordered five Wisent 2 armoured recovery vehicles, three Leguan 2HU armored bridges, 12 Leopard 2A4 tanks (intended for crew training), and 24 PzH 2000 artillery systems. The total value of the contract is estimated to be between €1.6 billion and €1.8 billion.
