The ATR 42 MP is based on the ATR 42-600 turboprop platform and showcases Leonardo’s expertise in integrating advanced systems into aircraft. Equipped with multi-domain sensors and real-time communication capabilities, this aircraft enhances operational efficiency across the Coast Guard’s chain of command by allowing seamless information sharing during missions.
The new ATR 42 MP will play a vital role in Italy’s coastal and international maritime surveillance, joining a fleet of both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. With advanced technology onboard, the aircraft is suited to the diverse responsibilities of the Coast Guard, including patrolling, search and rescue (SAR), and operations against illegal activities such as drug trafficking, smuggling, and piracy.
A key feature of the ATR 42 MP is its integration of Leonardo’s ATOS (Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance) mission system, designed to manage a broad array of sensors. ATOS consolidates sensor data to create a real-time tactical overview, providing operators with up-to-date situational awareness for complex missions.
Derived from the ATR 42-600 platform, the ATR 42 MP combines reliability, low life-cycle costs, and operational comfort, allowing crews to remain effective during missions lasting over eight hours.
