Lockheed Martin delivers 1,000th F-35 Centre Wing Assembly from Marietta facility

By Defence Industry Europe

Lockheed Martin has marked a major production milestone with the delivery of the 1,000th Centre Wing Assembly (CWA) for the F-35 fighter jet from its facility in Marietta, Georgia. The CWA forms roughly a quarter of the F-35’s fuselage and serves as the aircraft’s largest individual component, with its wings later attached during final assembly in Fort Worth, Texas.

The achievement highlights the ongoing contribution of around 1,200 employees based at the Marietta site, a hub of advanced aircraft manufacturing with a history that includes the F-22 Raptor. Lockheed Martin also partners with 29 additional suppliers across Georgia, creating an annual economic impact of USD 671 million in the state.

“We are proud of our Marietta team for their unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality F-35 Centre Wing components,” said Chauncey McIntosh, vice president and general manager of the F-35 programme. “The work this team does is critical in delivering the F-35 and supporting the warfighter in their important missions.”

The F-35 is considered the most advanced and capable fighter aircraft currently in production, with strong operational reliability and combat performance. It is now operated by 12 nations worldwide, having surpassed one million flight hours and completed over 600,000 sorties.
