Lockheed Martin demonstrates AI-powered Guam battle manager combining Aegis and IBCS for faster missile defense decisions

Lockheed Martin has demonstrated a Guam missile-defense prototype that connects Aegis Guam and the Integrated Battle Command System while using artificial intelligence to recommend weapons against incoming threats. The system reached a second-stage U.S. Army evaluation less than two months after the service requested a battle-management solution in June 2026.

During the evaluation, the suite fused live information from several integrated air and missile defense systems into a single operational picture. Commanders could view sensor tracks, available munitions and engagement opportunities across the joint operating area.

The software continuously processed hundreds of tracks and ranked potential responses. Its CommandIQ platform used algorithmic shot selection informed by thousands of simulations to support faster decisions and more efficient use of high-cost interceptors.

The prototype was installed at the Army Tactical Systems Integration Lab in Fort Bliss, Texas, within 24 hours of arrival. Lockheed Martin said it met all demonstration criteria during a one-week fielding period.

An open architecture allowed the suite to accept pre-planned warfighter responses, air tasking orders, airspace control orders and missile-defense designs. It also incorporated software from other defense-technology companies, allowing capabilities to be added without rebuilding the wider system.

“In missile defense, seconds can determine whether an operator protects a populated island or exhausts precious interceptors,” said Tiffany Marr, director CommandIQ®, Golden Dome for America C2 and Advanced Concepts at Lockheed Martin. “When you give commanders a single, real-time status of every sensor, weapon system, and munition loadout, then automatically recommend the optimal weapon for each incoming threat, they can make faster decisions, preserve ammunition and maximize protection of critical assets at machine speed.”

The Guam prototype follows Lockheed Martin’s software-based command-and-control integration work at Valiant Shield 2026. The company said that demonstration showed how capabilities from across industry could be connected rapidly to support operational requirements.
