D-Fend’s system identifies unauthorized drones and takes control of them through radio-frequency links. It then directs the aircraft to land in designated areas.
The system does not rely on jamming or kinetic force. It is designed to protect local communications, avoid interference with authorized drones and reduce collateral damage.
“Safety on the ground demands security in the air,” said Greg Brown, chairman and CEO, Motorola Solutions. “D-Fend’s field-proven counter-drone technology is a powerful complement to our mission-critical ecosystem, providing differentiated airspace protection for our customers around the world.”
D-Fend’s technology is deployed in more than 30 countries. Users include airports, military bases, border authorities, stadiums and critical infrastructure operators.
Motorola plans to use its global network and customer relationships to expand D-Fend’s reach. The company serves public safety, federal and enterprise customers worldwide.
Motorola will integrate D-Fend’s technology into its public safety ecosystem. The combined system will provide situational awareness and allow authorized operators to assess and mitigate unauthorized drones.
Zohar Halachmi will remain chief executive of D-Fend Solutions. He will also serve as Motorola’s senior vice president of Counter-Drone Solutions and lead its counter-drone platform.
“Joining Motorola Solutions marks an exciting new chapter for D-Fend and the customers we serve,” Halachmi said. “By combining our RF cyber technology with Motorola Solutions’ trusted global reach, we plan to scale faster and transform how airspace is protected worldwide.”
