Peru has selected L3Harris Technologies’ Viper Shield electronic warfare system for its new F-16 Block 70 fleet. The system is designed to help pilots counter hostile radars, missiles and other electronic threats while supporting interoperability with other F-16 Block 70 operators.

L3Harris said the Peruvian selection will add both offensive and defensive electronic warfare capability to the aircraft. Peru will receive the same advanced EW features used by other countries that have selected Viper Shield for their latest-generation F-16 fleets.

“We are focused on providing Peru with a low-risk EW solution through the active production line, flight test program and supply chain,” said Christopher Aebli, President, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, L3Harris. “Eight nations have selected Viper Shield, and we’re ramping up to full-rate production of 233 systems.”

The selection makes Peru the eighth country to choose Viper Shield, according to L3Harris. The company is now increasing output toward full-rate production of 233 systems to support its expanding customer base.

L3Harris developed Viper Shield in partnership with Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force. The all-digital electronic warfare suite uses a software-defined architecture designed to support capability updates as the threat environment changes.

The system can be integrated directly into new F-16 Block 70 and Block 72 aircraft. L3Harris also offers a retrofit version for earlier F-16 variants and an external pod configuration.
