The support package, valued at EUR 80 million, includes a wide range of spare parts, generators, small vehicles, essential maintenance materials, specialised tools, and stairs needed to keep the F-16 aircraft operational. “The F-16 aircraft need support materials and spare parts for maintenance, otherwise they cannot fly,” said Brekelmans. The provision of air-to-air missiles will enable Ukraine to enhance its capability to defend its airspace by targeting enemy aircraft.
For operational security reasons, the minister did not disclose specific details about the quantities or types of materials and missiles involved, nor did he comment on the exact delivery timeline. However, the intention is to send the materials to Ukraine as soon as possible.
Additionally, the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU), in which the Netherlands is a partner, recently surpassed GBP 1 billion in pledged aid. Earlier this year, the Netherlands contributed to the purchase of drones for Ukraine through the IFU, and to date, the country has provided EUR 125 million to the fund.
All the amounts mentioned in the latest support package are covered by the aid funds previously allocated for Ukraine.
