By Mario Blokken

Exciting developments are on the horizon for Poland and Italy as they navigate their paths toward strengthening their air defence capabilities. Despite concerns about potential delays in F-35 delivery schedules across Europe, both nations remain steadfast in their commitment to modernize their fleets with these cutting-edge Lockheed Martin-made warplanes.

Poland, poised to become a regional leader in F-35 deployment, remains on track with its contract to acquire 32 F-35A Lightning II jets from the United States. With deliveries set to begin in 2024, Poland’s Ministry of National Defence assures that the deal is progressing according to schedule. Additionally, Poland is considering expanding its combat aircraft fleet with an additional 32 fighters, weighing options that include the Eurofighter Typhoon and the F-15EX Eagle II.

Meanwhile, Italy, already in possession of 24 out of 90 ordered F-35s, continues its operations seamlessly despite concerns over Lockheed’s Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) upgrade delays. Italian officials remain confident that any setbacks will not impede their military’s capabilities, affirming their readiness to execute missions effectively.
