A total of eight vessels will be equipped with the MASS systems. Rheinmetall said the order value for the launchers is in the low double-digit million-euro range.
The contract also includes corresponding Omnitrap ammunition, with an order value in the high single-digit million-euro range. Integration and verification activities are also included as part of the commissioning.
Rheinmetall said the total contract value was booked in the second quarter of 2026. Delivery is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026 after receipt of the order and to end three years later, in the second quarter of 2029.
The company will supply MASS for Al Dorra-class guided-missile boats as part of Kuwait’s largest shipbuilding programme in more than 15 years. Rheinmetall described the vessels as versatile, open-sea stealth patrol vessels.
The boats are being built by Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding on behalf of the United Arab Emirates-based EDGE Group, which is acting as prime contractor. The Kuwaiti Armed Forces have also ordered Omnitrap-ER decoy ammunition for the systems.
Rheinmetall said the new generation of decoys offers extended range and an improved trajectory for precise deployment against modern imaging radar and infrared-guided threats. MASS is designed to protect ships and boats from threats including anti-ship missiles and laser-guided weapons.
The system can be used on the high seas, in coastal waters or on rivers. Rheinmetall said it provides multispectral decoys through a single system covering relevant wavelength ranges, including radar, ultraviolet, electro-optical sensors, lasers and infrared.
The company said MASS can be installed on vessels of different sizes because of its modular design, from offshore patrol vessels to frigates. It can be integrated into existing command and weapon control systems with limited effort or operated as a standalone system.
