The U.S. Navy has awarded Raytheon, an RTX business, a $22.9 billion contract to accelerate production of Tomahawk long-range strike missiles. The Department of War said the award will increase deliveries to the Joint Force while supporting a broader expansion of U.S. munitions manufacturing capacity.

The contract is intended to give RTX greater production stability as it expands its workforce, increases manufacturing throughput and strengthens supply chains. The Department said the award will also reduce procurement lead times and accelerate delivery of critical weapons.

“The Department called upon industry to expand munitions production, and RTX has answered that call,” said Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael P. Duffey. “This Tomahawk award increases our ability to equip the Joint Force, ensuring our Warfighters never face a fair fight.”

The award supports the Department’s Acquisition Transformation Strategy, which is focused on speeding weapons procurement and fielding. The Tomahawk program provides the U.S. military with a long-range strike capability and is being expanded to meet current operational requirements.

“Guaranteeing our naval and joint forces have the lethal firepower they need to deter aggression and protect the homeland is paramount,” said Acting Secretary of the Navy, Hung Cao. “This landmark $22.9 billion investment will accelerate Tomahawk missile delivery to our warfighters at unprecedented speed.”

“By working closely with industry to expand our munitions industrial base’s capacity, the Department is utilizing every available tool to meet the demands of our current operations, ensuring they are equipped to fight, win, and come home safe.” The Department said the contract is designed to address both near-term missile requirements and longer-term industrial capacity.

The Navy’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive Munitions oversees the development, procurement and delivery of naval munitions and strike capabilities. The organization coordinates weapons programs and the industrial base to accelerate production, expand capacity and provide the fleet with munitions needed for power projection and combat operations.
