By Defence Industry Europe

The Lithuanian Armed Forces have received the first batch of Bolide Mk2 missiles for the RBS-70 short-range air defence system, as announced by the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence on May 31.

In October 2022, the Lithuanian defence ministry signed a contract with Swedish defence solutions provider Saab for an unspecified number of Bolide Mk2 air defence missiles. The Lithuanian ministry confirmed that the missiles delivered are valued at approximately EUR 15 million. As Defence Industry Europe reported, the total contract signed in 2022 was valued at EUR 45 million.

The RBS-70 short-range air defence systems are utilized by the Lithuanian Air Defence Battalion. This system was selected for its ease of operation, mobility, and its immunity to mechanical and electromagnetic interference.

The Bolide Mk2 missile enhances the capability to intercept aerial targets at altitudes and distances of up to 4 km and 7 km, respectively. These missiles are also used by several other NATO allies.
