During the official visit to Brazil, Slovakia’s Minister of Defense acknowledged the Embraer C-390 as the most suitable option for the country’s future military transport needs. Citing the benefits of regional synergy, the Minister noted that neighbouring countries, including Hungary and the Czech Republic, have already acquired the aircraft, enabling shared resources for training, logistics, and fleet growth.
Slovakia plans to formally initiate the process of acquiring three C-390 Millennium aircraft in January 2025. “The C-390 is currently the best aircraft in its category due to its cost efficiency, versatility and reliability, being able to perform the most demanding missions anytime, anywhere,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “We are confident that the C-390 is the most suitable aircraft to meet the needs of the Slovak Air Force.”
The C-390 Millennium is increasingly recognised as the aircraft of choice among NATO and EU members for its modern design, multi-mission capabilities, and interoperability with allied forces. The aircraft is already in operation with Portugal and Hungary, and it has been ordered by the Netherlands, Austria, and the Czech Republic, with Sweden recently joining the growing list of customers. Brazil and South Korea are also among the nations operating the C-390.
Since its introduction with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019 and the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, the C-390 fleet has demonstrated exceptional reliability, accumulating over 15,500 flight hours with a mission capability rate of 93% and mission completion rates exceeding 99%. These achievements underscore its productivity and operational excellence in the category.
