The radar system, designed for medium-range multi-mission use, will help enhance the recognised air picture for the Swedish Armed Forces. It employs advanced 4D AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) technology to provide improved detection and tracking across a range of airborne threats.
Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026, highlighting Thales’s capacity to meet tight operational deadlines. The company credits its strong industrial ramp-up programme for the rapid production timeline.
The GM200 MM/C’s compact and mobile design enables fast deployment and flexible mission operations. These features are particularly valuable for Sweden’s evolving defence needs and its cooperation within NATO frameworks.
Sweden becomes the fifth NATO country to select the GM200 MM/C radar, underscoring its growing reputation among alliance members. The system is seen as a vital tool in maintaining national security and adapting to modern aerial threat environments.
“We are very proud to be selected by FMV to further strengthen Swedish sovereign and defence capabilities in an increasingly challenging environment,” said Håkan Ahlström, Country Director Sweden at Thales. “The Thales GM200 MM/C, with its high-end technology, will play a vital role contributing to the overall national security.”
