Danish defence technology company Systematic will provide its SitaWare Headquarters software to 1 German-Netherlands Corps. The platform has been selected as the common digital foundation for the NATO high-readiness formation’s operations.

The corps is headquartered in Münster and is jointly led by Germany and the Netherlands. It includes personnel from twelve nations and can at short notice command operations of up to 60,000 troops across land, sea and air.

SitaWare Headquarters will be used by the corps to plan and run operations as it coordinates multinational forces. The software is intended to give personnel from different nations a shared operational picture and common procedures.

“1GNC is where coalition cooperation gets put to the test in practice. When personnel and systems from many nations have to work together, they need a common foundation that gives everyone the same operational picture and ensures that everyone works according to the same procedures,” says Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO of Systematic.

Systematic said the selection addresses a central challenge for multinational forces. That challenge is how to bring data, formats and procedures from different national systems into one coherent picture.

SitaWare Headquarters draws information from a wide range of sources, including the corps’ own forces, allied units, terrain and infrastructure. It combines that information into a single, continuously updated overview.

Officers from all twelve nations will be able to plan and coordinate from the same picture. Systematic said this applies regardless of which national systems each country brings with it.

“1GNC sets the benchmark for coalition cooperation in practice. Coordinating personnel and systems from multiple nations demands a common command-and-control capability that creates shared situational awareness and harmonised processes,” says Sven Trusch, Managing Director of Systematic’s German subsidiary.

“We are proud to support the Corps with SitaWare Headquarters as part of its continued digital development,” says Trusch. Systematic said SitaWare is built on NATO’s shared technical standards.

Those standards allow each contributing country to keep its own procedures and security rules. At the same time, each nation can contribute to and draw from the same operational picture.

Systematic said its SitaWare suite provides operationally proven C4ISR software for commanders at all levels. The software gives users a situational picture and tools to lead and coordinate missions.

SitaWare functions across all levels of command, from the individual dismount to the joint level. The suite operates across domains and is in service with more than 50 countries, including Five Eyes and NATO nations.

The software has been deployed around the world in support of combat, peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. Its selection by 1 German-Netherlands Corps places it at the centre of a multinational command environment within NATO.

1 German-Netherlands Corps is one of NATO’s high-readiness headquarters. It has deployed to Afghanistan and has on several occasions commanded NATO’s rapid reaction force, the NATO Response Force.
