U.S. Air Force adds third T-7A Red Hawk to Texas base, expanding next-generation pilot training ahead of T-38C replacement

The U.S. Air Force received a third T-7A Red Hawk at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, on Aug. 25, expanding the fleet supporting integration of its next-generation jet trainer. The additional aircraft gives Air Education and Training Command more capacity to prepare instructors and establish training operations before the Red Hawk enters the pilot pipeline

The 99th Flying Training Squadron is leading AETC’s work to introduce the aircraft and its associated training systems.

The T-7A will replace the T-38C Talon as the Air Force updates advanced instruction for future combat aviators.

The aircraft is one part of a wider training system that combines flying operations with high-fidelity ground-based equipment and modernized instruction.

 

The expanded capacity will allow AETC to develop instructor pilots while refining how the new system will operate within the service’s training structure.

The Air Force intends the program to prepare aviators for high-end combat and support the generation of combat airpower for operational units.

The T-7A was designed, built and tested through a shared digital development process intended to connect each stage of the program.

Its live, virtual and constructive training architecture was designed to evolve as aircraft technologies, operational missions and training requirements change.
