U.S. Air Force: B-52 Stratofortress bombers conduct training mission with NATO allies in Finland

By Defence Industry Europe

Two U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress bombers from the 20th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron carried out a simulated weapons drop training mission in Finland on 25 November. The operation, part of Bomber Task Force 25-1, included joint exercises with Finnish F/A-18C Hornets and Swedish Saab JAS 39 Gripens.

The mission highlighted Finland’s increasing role within NATO following its recent accession to the Alliance. It also marked another step in strengthening NATO’s collective defence by fostering close coordination between U.S. forces and their Finnish counterparts.

“This Bomber Task Force mission exemplifies our unwavering commitment to our European Allies and partners. Together, we build stronger, more strategic relationships that reinforce security and stability across the region,” said Gen. James Hecker, Commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa.

The exercise followed previous collaborations, including austere landing demonstrations in Finland earlier this year and Finnish participation in the Ramstein Air Base 1v1 air superiority exercise in June. These efforts reflect a shared commitment to refining operational readiness within NATO.

Bomber Task Force missions like this provide NATO Allies and partners with critical opportunities to synchronise their operations. Through joint training, nations strengthen their capabilities and advance a unified vision for regional security and stability.
