The Lot 6 contract builds on previous agreements and maintains the Army’s rapid fielding approach for the upgraded heavy-lift platform. It follows two additional awards issued last year, including the first tied to the Army’s Rapid Fielding decision.
“Consistent production awards reflect the Army’s confidence in the CH-47F Block II as a critical capability for handling logistics in challenging environments across different domains and in varying operations,” said Heather McBryan. “Block II Chinooks provide commanders greater operational reach, faster resupply and enhanced protection for forces operating in austere and contested environments.”
Boeing has already delivered six CH-47F Block II production helicopters to the Army as part of the program. The service plans to field its first operational unit equipped with the upgraded aircraft by mid-calendar year 2028, following delivery of earlier production lots.
The CH-47F Block II incorporates a strengthened drivetrain and airframe, increasing the aircraft’s maximum gross weight by 4,000 pounds. These improvements enable greater lift capacity and enhanced performance in demanding operational conditions.
Additional upgrades include changes to the fuel system that extend the helicopter’s mission radius across most payload configurations. The platform is also designed to improve sustainment and accommodate future upgrades at lower cost.
Officials said the continued procurement of the Block II variant reflects its role in supporting logistics and transport missions across diverse environments. The aircraft is intended to provide increased flexibility and capability for operations in contested and austere settings.
