The U.S. Army is turning to a FedEx Dataworks-led team and Google’s secure cloud infrastructure to modernize its domestic non-tactical logistics network. The project will cover supply-chain processes, materiel management and facilities across the Army’s organic industrial base.

The collaboration is the latest project under the Army’s Strategic Capital Initiative, which links priority military infrastructure requirements with commercially investable business models. The service said the approach could accelerate modernization without waiting for traditional procurement cycles while improving value for the Army, industry and taxpayers.

“Logistics win wars,” Army Secretary Dan Driscoll said. “Through the Strategic Capital Initiative, we’re pairing the Army’s depots and demand with FedEx’s logistics expertise and Google’s secure cloud to build a supply chain that moves as fast as the fight demands.”

FedEx Dataworks will apply commercial logistics analytics to help the Army build a predictive network for managing equipment and transportation. The work will include inventory optimization, demand forecasting and analysis of delivery routes and transportation modes.

“FedEx operates the world’s largest shipping and logistics network, connecting highly critical and precision-dependent supply chains for customers,” FedEx Corp. Chief Executive Officer Raj Subramaniam said. “We are honored to bring our expertise to support the U.S. Army’s vital mission.”

“We are evaluating transportation routing and modes to cut delivery times across the Army, and transitioning from a dated supply system to a predictive, intelligent network to ensure the warfighter receives critical equipment at the time of need,” Deputy Undersecretary of the Army Dave Fitzgerald said. The project will also examine how physical logistics infrastructure can be modernized alongside the Army’s digital systems.

The data environment will be hosted within Google’s Department of Defense Impact Level 5-authorized commercial cloud. Google Cloud will connect FedEx capabilities with legacy Army data sources while maintaining the identity-management and encryption controls required to protect national defense information.

The Army said the introduction of automation and advanced technology would support its civilian and military workforce rather than replace it. “Integrating advanced technology will not replace our workforce; it will remove friction and increase speed and effectiveness,” Fitzgerald said.

“By upskilling our personnel to manage these advanced systems, we are empowering our Soldiers and dedicated civilian workforce to timely deliver the critical support our warfighters require in a safer and smarter way,” Fitzgerald added. The Army and the FedEx-led team will establish working groups to assess existing networks, processes and technologies, with a final implementation plan for U.S.-based sites expected by November 2026.
