The Ukrainian Centre of Innovations and Defence Technologies, under the Ministry of Defence's Digital Branch, showcased its latest battlefield innovations at NATO Edge 24 from 3 to 5 December. As an exhibitor in the "NATO Partner Corner," the delegation presented advanced technologies that have been critical in Ukraine's ongoing defence operations.

The Ukrainian delegation highlighted two key systems: the DELTA situational awareness combat system and the Avengers AI platform. Both tools are designed to strengthen national security through innovative approaches, ensuring real-time decision-making and operational superiority on the battlefield. These technologies were developed and refined in the midst of active conflict, showcasing Ukraine’s ability to adapt and innovate under pressure.

DELTA, a robust cloud-based battlespace management system, collects, processes, and displays data on enemy movements. It provides real-time situational awareness across command levels, enabling coordinated defence strategies. Already proven in combat, DELTA has also demonstrated interoperability with NATO systems during exercises such as CWIX 24, NATO’s largest interoperability event.

The Avengers platform, a pioneering AI tool, analyses video feeds from drones and stationary cameras. It has been instrumental in detecting over 12,000 units of enemy equipment weekly, significantly reducing manual workload and expediting critical decisions. NATO Edge 24 marked the first international unveiling of this groundbreaking system, drawing considerable attention from participants.

Lieutenant Colonel Yelyzaveta Boiko, representing the Ukrainian delegation, emphasised the synergy between DELTA and other cutting-edge technologies. “Integrating AI and robotics into our operations gives us an edge,” she said. “The Avengers platform, developed during active war, exemplifies the potential of AI in reducing routine tasks and improving decision-making speed.”

The Ukrainian booth also featured advanced drone and robotic technologies from domestic manufacturers, including the MAGURA maritime drone and the NEMESIS heavy bomber drone with satellite communications. Both platforms have already demonstrated their value in active combat scenarios, providing versatile solutions to complex operational challenges.

Additionally, Tech Force in UA (TFUA), a coalition of Ukrainian defence innovators, was present to showcase their contributions. Since 2014, TFUA has supplied the Ukrainian Armed Forces with cutting-edge robotic systems and software, solidifying Ukraine’s reputation as a leader in battlefield innovation.

During the conference, Lieutenant Colonel Artem Martynenko participated in a plenary panel discussing the implications of AI in modern warfare. Speaking alongside NATO and defence industry leaders, LTC Martynenko stressed Ukraine’s role as a testbed for future conflict scenarios. “Unfortunately, Ukraine is forced to innovate to survive,” he said. “The war has pushed us to the forefront of military innovation, and we are here to share our experience with NATO partners.”

NATO officials expressed gratitude for Ukraine’s presence at NATO Edge 24, acknowledging the nation as a steadfast partner and a leader in battlefield innovation. The conference underscored Ukraine’s vital role in advancing collective security, even as it faces significant challenges in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
