Ukraine’s Defence Ministry to allocate neraly EUR 60 million monthly for UAV procurement by combat brigades

By Defence Industry Europe

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has announced a significant boost in funding for combat brigades within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Starting this year, the Ministry will allocate UAH 2.5 billion (approximately EUR 57 million) each month for the procurement of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

This monthly funding will be distributed directly to combat units, enabling commanders to purchase drones tailored to specific mission requirements. The initiative, supported by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, aims to enhance the flexibility and effectiveness of Ukraine’s defence forces.

In December, the Ministry successfully allocated UAH 2.1 billion (EUR 48 million) to combat units for the same purpose. This allocation demonstrated the benefits of decentralising drone procurement, allowing brigades to rapidly meet operational needs and adapt to evolving battlefield conditions.

Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov highlighted the decision to expand the initiative following its successful trial phase. “Commanders will now have the flexibility to acquire drones most suited for front-line operations. This step is crucial in building a dynamic system that ensures our military has the resources necessary for Ukraine’s defence,” he stated.
