United States and NATO launch new mechanism to accelerate defence support for Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

The United States and NATO have introduced the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) to streamline and speed up the delivery of weaponry and defence systems to Ukraine. The initiative aims to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities and help create the conditions for a just and lasting peace.

The mechanism operates under agreements between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S. President Donald Trump, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. It allows Allied and partner nations to contribute voluntarily towards the funding of U.S.-supplied weapons and military technologies for Ukraine.

The PURL includes a list of military equipment and munitions based on Ukraine’s operational needs and approved by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). Delivery packages will be announced regularly and tailored to the evolving situation on the ground.

NATO will oversee coordination of these deliveries through the NATO Security Assistance and Training to Ukraine (NSATU) structure. This coordination ensures timely and organised supply of essential systems to Ukrainian forces.

The Netherlands has funded the first PURL package, valued at €500 million, with delivery expected in the near future. Further substantial support announcements are anticipated as the programme progresses.
