ZTS – Special prepares to participate in the production of CV90

The Slovak defence industry is preparing to participate in the production of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles for the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. The main industrial partner of BAE Systems Hägglunds, the producer of CV90, is the ZTS - Special, a subsidiary of DMD Group. Currently, the company is carrying out investments aimed at modernizing an industrial infrastructure.

According to the Slovak defence ministry, one of the most important investments is to build a special infrastructure to produce certain subsystems and components. In addition, the final assembly and tests of the CV90s will take place at ZTS – Special facility.

The cost of investments launched so far is around EUR 0,6 million. In the near future, ZTS-Special will start new investments, the cost of which may reach EUR 0,8-1 million.

The investments include modernization of the existing infrastructure, purchase of new production machines, construction of new buildings, and special warehouses.

According to the managing director of DMD Group Stefan Skultety, the involvement of the ZTS – Special in the production of CV90 will create 50 new jobs in the company. He also emphasizes that the ZTS – Special will be the recipient of a technology transfer from BAE Systems.

In December 2022, Slovakia has signed a EUR 1.3 billion government-to-government agreement with Sweden for the delivery of 152 CV90MkIV infantry fighting vehicles for the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. The agreement provides for industrial cooperation between BAE Systems Hägglunds and Slovak defence companies on the production of vehicles.

The Slovak CV90s will be equipped with the new state-of-the-art D-series turret with a 35 mm gun, Elbit Systems’ Iron Fist active protection system (APS) solution, and an integrated, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems’ Spike-LR anti-tank guided missiles.
