Airbus Helicopters expands Canadian presence with new integrated distribution centre

By Defence Industry Europe

Airbus Helicopters has officially inaugurated its new integrated distribution centre in the Niagara region, Canada. The 21,000-square-foot facility marks a significant investment, aimed at strengthening industrial operations and greatly expanding spare parts storage capacity.

This strategic development reinforces Airbus Helicopters’ long-term commitment to Ontario and the wider Canadian aerospace sector. The new centre will help sustain over 300 skilled jobs, further consolidating the company’s leadership within the country’s dynamic aerospace landscape.

Airbus is actively enhancing its partnerships with numerous Canadian suppliers and distributors, fostering local collaboration. The initiative capitalises on the strong synergy already existing within the Canadian aerospace ecosystem.

Dwayne Charette, President of Airbus Helicopters in Canada, emphasised the importance of the expansion, stating, “The expansion of our footprint in Ontario underscores the strategic importance of Canada to Airbus’ global operations. This new integrated distribution centre represents a significant investment and a clear demonstration of our enduring commitment to innovation, local talent development, and Canadian leadership in aerospace.”

Charette further highlighted the broader impact of the project: “By deepening our roots here, we are not only proactively addressing the evolving demands of the helicopter market but also actively contributing to the economic strength and security of the region.”

The new centre responds to increasing demand for Airbus’ advanced twin-engine helicopter portfolio, particularly the H135. This model has been selected by the Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadian Air Force for the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) programme.

The facility will enable the existing Fort Erie manufacturing and completions centre to expand its operations, fostering future growth and better meeting customer needs. The Niagara Distribution Centre will enhance logistics by optimising inventory management, supporting key business lines such as helicopter completions, component repair and overhaul, and advanced composite materials manufacturing.

Key improvements from the expanded facility include faster shipping timelines for critical components and a significant boost in on-site spare parts storage. Additionally, the centre will serve as a central distribution hub, strengthening the Niagara region’s status as a major aerospace manufacturing centre.
