According to AM General, the updated HUMVEE has a new hood and front grille engineered to accommodate the powertrain. The suspension is designed to improve mobility and durability on demanding terrain.
The company said the redesigned HUMVEE’s common rail direct injection engine produces 250 horsepower and more than 500 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission featuring wide-ratio gearing.
An electronic range selector simplifies configuration for left- or right-hand-drive applications. AM General said the powertrain provides increased power and improved fuel efficiency.
Later modernization phases will introduce improved crew ergonomics, a digital cockpit and a new vehicle electronics architecture. Plans also include autonomous and optionally manned capabilities, according to AM General’s press release.
“I’m looking forward to this year’s AUSA as there is no better time to demonstrate our evolving capabilities to our longstanding customer, the US Army, and how we are adapting to the speed of change in the modern battlefield,” said John Chadbourne, AM General’s president and chief executive. “From a new powertrain to advanced autonomous capabilities and increased lethality, our systems provide a strong foundation for the Warfighter and their mission.”
The Association of the U.S. Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition runs October 12–14 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. AM General will exhibit at Booth 1925 in Hall B.
