German defence company Rheinmetall disclosed in August that it had received an order from the German government to produce Luna NG systems for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Luna NG is an advanced unmanned aerial system that includes a ground control station and several drones. The package also features a launch catapult, optional net equipment for drone retrieval, and rapid repair tools. The entire system is conveniently mounted on a Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles HX truck with a swap body system.
Luna NG drones are known for their ultralight high-stability design, allowing them to stay airborne for over twelve hours. With the optional StaCom equipment, these drones can maintain a datalink range of up to 300 kilometers. Rheinmetall states that the Luna NG offers a reconnaissance capability of several hundred kilometers, ensuring ample mission time over the target area.
