Stationed at the Gris-Nez Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Pas-de-Calais, the CAMCOPTER S-100 is deployed as needed by the participating maritime authorities of Belgium and France. With its operational airspace approved by civil aviation authorities, the UAS provides a wide array of services. These include search and rescue, maritime surveillance, environmental protection, and response to maritime accidents and disasters.
One key function of the drone is emission monitoring, an increasingly important task in the effort to combat pollution at sea. The CAMCOPTER S-100 is equipped with advanced sensors such as the Trakka TC-300 EO/IR sensor, the Explicit Mini Sniffer for detecting emissions, and a Becker Avionics BD406 Emergency Beacon Locator. It also utilises an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver and a Mode-S Transponder ADSB to ensure accurate and comprehensive monitoring.
Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership with EMSA, which dates back to 2018. “The CAMCOPTER has proven its worth in multiple search and rescue operations. The S-100 saves valuable response time and enables quick and efficient scanning of large areas, even for very small objects or anomalies at sea.”
