The funding proposal, coordinated by Finland, includes participation from Latvia, Sweden, and Germany. The allocated funds will facilitate multinational cooperation between the countries using the CAVS vehicles, aiming to enhance European defence capabilities and interoperability while fostering closer collaboration within NATO frameworks.
Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Finland Division, highlighted the programme’s rapid development and collaborative nature. “The CAVS programme has been moved forward quickly and promptly under the leadership of Finland and the excellent cooperation between Patria and the countries participating in the programme. The joint programme enables the development of the Patria 6×6 vehicle platform as well as the cost-effectiveness of life-cycle support, quick procurement and equipment compatibility, strengthening defence cooperation in Europe. The EDIRPA funding received now will promote the programme even further.”
The CAVS programme focuses on developing the Patria 6×6 armoured vehicle platform, with Patria drawing on over 40 years of experience in armoured troop transport and system integration. The programme leverages local industry capabilities in each participating country, ensuring robust security of supply and supporting national industries. To date, over 750 Patria 6×6 vehicles have been ordered, demonstrating strong demand and trust in the platform.
This funding is expected to further advance the CAVS programme, supporting cost-effective procurement, enhanced operational compatibility, and long-term maintenance solutions. By fostering multinational defence collaboration, the initiative contributes to strengthening European security and addressing collective defence challenges.
