The initiative aims to continue the development towards intelligent autonomous systems and for Sweden to thereby retain its global position in underwater technology. It´s an opportunity for Swedish industry to both expand in existing markets and establish new ones.
SMaRC is an interdisciplinary research centre that brings together partners from industry, academia and government with focus on R&D in areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence, ship design, underwater networks and oceanography. SMaRC is Sweden’s largest academic venture in underwater robotics.
Hans Wicklander at international business development at Saab Kockums, is chairman of the research centre:
“We have seen great progress since the project started in 2017 and are pleased to be able to continue our investment in the field. Contributing to research through the triple helix model is a proven method for us and has historically been one of the success factors in the development of several of Saab’s products. Through SMaRC, Saab has good opportunities to collaborate on, develop and test future solutions in many different environments. At the same time, we can train engineers and scientists who help us lead the development of underwater technology.”
