Germany orders new pilot helmet systems from Gentex Corporation

By Defence Industry Europe

The German defence procurement agency (BAAINBw) signed a contract with the American company Gentex Corporation for the supply of 1,850 helmet systems for pilots serving in the air force and army, BAAINBw said in a press release.

According to the BAAINBw, the improved shell design of the helmet systems, coupled with ear protection capsules integrated into the helmet shell, significantly enhances sound isolation, leading to clearer communication and reduced noise exposure for users.

The helmets are designed to be customizable in terms of dust and facial protection, the choice between laser or sun protection, and the attachment of night vision devices.

Their modular design allows for use across virtually all helicopters deployed by both the army and air force.

These helmet systems have undergone extensive testing across several helicopter squadrons for key weapon systems, with the results being a prerequisite for the systems’ approval. Certification was completed in November 2023.

The new aviator helmet systems are set to completely replace existing helmets, with delivery starting in August and completion by the end of the year.
