German defence company HENSOLDT and US-based Lockheed Martin have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore potential collaboration in maritime command and control systems and radar technologies. The agreement, signed on 7 November 2024, sets the foundation for joint development efforts aimed at enhancing maritime security and defence capabilities.

HENSOLDT CEO Oliver Dörre highlighted the importance of the partnership for advancing security and defence solutions globally. “This MoU with Lockheed Martin reflects our positioning as a reliable partner for national and international security and defence programs and our strategic development as a provider of integrated system solutions,” Dörre said during the signing.

The two companies have previously worked together on various projects, creating a strong basis for this new collaboration. “We are therefore all the more looking forward to working with the Lockheed Martin team to drive forward concepts with pioneering technologies in the field of maritime command and control systems and radar and thus contribute to the sustainable expansion of the capabilities of our military customers and partners, including the potential of local value creation,” Dörre added.

Paul Lemmo, vice president and general manager of Integrated Warfare Systems and Sensors at Lockheed Martin, reinforced the company’s commitment to industrial partnerships, especially in Germany. “Lockheed Martin is dedicated to building industrial partnerships for programs in Germany and beyond,” Lemmo stated. He emphasised that their combined efforts in radar development will yield high-performance systems, designed and supported in Germany to ensure enduring operational capabilities.

This collaboration aligns with the strategic goals of both companies, potentially benefiting military customers through enhanced maritime technologies. The partnership also supports local value creation, as the companies aim to develop and maintain these high-performance systems within Germany.
