The initiative aims to broaden joint projects across multiple areas, including missile technologies, maintenance, training and integration solutions. It is also intended to strengthen Lithuania’s role in international defence supply chains.

The agreement seeks to involve Lithuanian companies and research institutions in joint projects with Lockheed Martin. It focuses on building local capabilities, enhancing the technological base and identifying mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.

“The signed cooperation agreement with Lockheed Martin and the establishment of its division in Lithuania are not only symbolic steps, but also a real opportunity for this defence industry giant to work more closely with Lithuanian institutions, business and the scientific community,” Zumerienė said. “We initiated this cooperation agreement, which reflects Lithuania’s openness and determination to create favourable conditions for the defence industry to grow – we aim to attract new investments and are working to ensure that Lithuania not only purchases weapons but also becomes part of the defence technology ecosystem.”

Lithuania has already procured advanced systems from Lockheed Martin, including HIMARS. These systems are intended to strengthen military capabilities, increase deterrence and improve interoperability with allied forces.

The agreement is also expected to expand Lockheed Martin’s global supplier and partner network. It reflects efforts to address growing demand for defence capabilities both domestically and internationally.

“Our partnership with Lithuania marks a new phase of cooperation that goes beyond simply supplying world-class weapons systems,” said Gaylia Campbell, vice president for tactical weapons. “By exploring joint industrial opportunities, we are expanding Lockheed Martin’s global supplier and partner network – this approach is exactly what is needed to meet the growing demand for our combat-proven capabilities both domestically and abroad.”

The agreement represents a step toward developing a more integrated and modern Lithuanian defence industry. Authorities said continued cooperation could enhance national resilience and contribute to regional security.
