The investment aims to double the plant’s production capacity of small calibre cartridges, which are crucial for both military and civilian markets.
The first phase of the investment will see EUR 11.2 million allocated this year, allowing construction on a new production line to begin ahead of schedule.
The full expansion is expected to be completed by 2027, increasing the plant’s production capacity from 60 million to 120 million cartridges annually.
This would raise the company’s turnover to approximately EUR 50 million.
Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė highlighted the strategic importance of the investment, noting the heightened need to strengthen Lithuania’s defence industry in response to the war in Ukraine.
“We are unanimously committed to enhancing our national defence and security. By investing in cartridge production, we are responding to an increased regional need,” she said.
AB Giraitė Ammunition Plant, which manufactures NATO-standard cartridges, has already made substantial upgrades. In 2022, the company invested EUR 2.3 million to improve production efficiency, with further upgrades expected to be completed by 2025.
The government’s contribution will allow the plant to continue expanding its production capabilities and pursue future defence industry projects.
