The larger figure is a ceiling on potential orders, not a commitment by the agency to spend the full amount. Metallus has up to 24 months to fulfill each order placed during the contract’s five-year ordering period.
The single-award contract uses firm, fixed prices and allows the agency to order material as needed. Metallus said the work calls for specialty steel that meets defense requirements for performance, quality and traceability.
“We are proud to support the DLA and the U.S. military’s readiness mission through steel produced entirely in the United States,” said Metallus Chief Executive Mike Williams. He described the award and first order as a further step in the company’s expansion within the defense market.
Metallus said it intends to keep investing in its operations and capabilities as demand for domestically sourced specialty steel grows. The roughly $125 million delivery order is the amount awarded so far under the new contract.
