“This successful diversion to Trapani is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our personnel and the outstanding support of Italian Air Force 37th Wing and NATO AEW&C FOB Trapani,” said Brigadier General Andrew Clark, Commander of NISRF. “By expanding our operational footprint, we enhance our flexibility to provide critical intelligence and surveillance support to NATO and its member nations, whenever and wherever it is needed.”
NISRF, headquartered in Sigonella, Italy, is a cornerstone of NATO’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) architecture. Its fleet of five NATO RQ-4D PHOENIX remotely piloted aircraft and a team of skilled analysts deliver crucial intelligence products to support NATO decision-making and member state security.
The inclusion of Trapani Air Base into NISRF’s operational footprint strengthens its ability to address dynamic security challenges. By diversifying its operational bases, NISRF ensures it can deliver continuous surveillance and provide actionable intelligence across critical regions as situations evolve.
On 11 December 2024, NISRF launched a new mission from Trapani, underlining its operational excellence and adaptability. This successful deployment demonstrates the Force’s readiness to execute complex ISR missions and solidifies its vital role in supporting NATO’s collective security objectives.
